The Friends & Farmers Cooperative Board of Directors requests the pleasure of your company at the Annual Membership Meeting & Election, to be held in the big barn at Millbrook Marsh, on November 12 from 2 to 4:30 pm. This is an important meeting, as we will elect new board members and update membership on the board’s work.
The Friends & Farmers Board of Directors is investigating the establishment of a food hub function. A food hub, as defined by the USDA, is “a centrally located facility with a business management structure facilitating the aggregation, storage, processing, distribution, and/or marketing of locally/regionally produced food products.”
The board has determined a food hub is our best chance to secure financial security for a Cooperative that has been unprofitable for the last two to three years.
With the potential establishment of a food hub, larger transactions can offset overhead required to run the Cooperative. Financial security will revive the pursuit of a retail store and the continued operation of the Online Market. The board has identified various parties interested in considering a partnership to help establish a food hub through logistical and financial contributions. We welcome your thoughts during the meeting's Member Comment period.
We hope to see you at Millbrook Marsh on November 12 at 2pm! There is ample parking onsite. We encourage you to come early and join your fellow Cooperative members on impromptu walks around Millbrook Marsh’s numerous boardwalks and paths.
